RightsPlus focuses on rights based approach and goes beyond basic perimeter of rights to address evolving needs and rights in a fast paced world.
OUR VISION
A healthy and respectful life for people living in poverty
OUR MISSION
Empowering people to engage in innovative actions to relieve poverty
OUR APPROACH
Rights are not static. These are enforceable when rights are either recognized by international instruments or by the law of the country. Rights recognized by the international institutions e.g. the United Nations may or may not be accepted by the country of the rights claimant. Different countries use different terminology to define needs of people, for instance education is not constitutionally guaranteed rights in every country even though it is recognized as a human right by the United Nations. So, education is defined by some countries as basic need, not as a right. Food, shelter, health etc. are also treated as basic necessities by the law of many countries, not as rights. This explanation may not be required to the people who live in poverty rather they need what they need to live. While rights framework can provide legal remedies to the people living in poverty, services like training, financial assistance, human rights education, legal aid services, food bank etc. will provide them an opportunity to thrive and fight against poverty and injustices. So, the concept of RightPlus is beyond the legal framework of rights i.e. rights plus any other matter that affects the lives of people living in poverty. RightsPlus focuses on human rights based approach and goes beyond basic perimeter of rights to address evolving needs and rights in a fast paced world.
